Aids and special features :	Mode of assessment Successful completion of all exercises Presentation on a subject related to a lecture topic (oral examination). Graded: yes Exercises and preparation count for 30%; the course examination counts for 70%.
Teaching aims :	Students will gain an awareness of the importance of IT security in our society. They will also know the limitations of security measures (Total security is unattainable.) and will have a basic knowledge of IT security based on a selected subject area.
Contents :	Legal framework for the usage of IT (not restricted to usage at the University of Applied Sciences) Password security Introduction to cryptography: symmetrical and asymmetrical procedures, authentification, and digital signatures, public key infrastructure, browser security, active content, cookies Harmful software (viruses, worms, Trojan horses) e-mail security Wireless network security Personal firewalls
